Elizabeth Hargett
B.S. - Finance
Profession:
Mortgage Loan Officer - Payson, AZ

Elizabeth Hargett was working at a bank selling investments and feeling like she was getting more and more bogged down in a go-nowhere job. Without a college degree, a promotion was out of the question. If any new jobs became available either with her current employer or with someone else she knew she wouldn't be positioned to even apply for it. She needed an edge on her resume, but with responsibilities as mother, wife and full-time employee, where would she find the time.
She discovered that distance learning was a way for her to take courses, especially since she was many miles from the nearest college. When she checked into the KWU program, she was impressed and excited by the possibility that she could work on her degree at her own pace. "I set my sights on the B.S. in Finance because that was what I was doing in my job every day and I could see where the courses would help me," she says.
Mike Newman
B.S. - Finance
Profession:
Executive V.P./C.O.O. - Monroe, MI

"As the second executive officer of a $100 million financial institution, a college degree is standard and expected," says Mike Newman, Executive V.P. and C.O.O. of the Monroe County Community Credit Union. "Thanks to the efficient and convenient educational program provided by Kennedy-Western University, I have that degree and have finally accomplished what I wish I would have done many years ago."
Mike had achieved the various professional certifications, but between family, work and community responsibilities, he never felt he had the time to take off and go back to school. "I was busy earning a living so I could support my family and put both my children through traditional college programs," he says.
Russell Sears
B.S. - Finance
Profession:
Loan Operations Manager/Compliance Officer - Hallstead, PA

For several years, Russ Sears dabbled in the pursuit of a bachelor's degree to accent his supervisory position with Peoples National Bank. The courses, workshops and seminars were interesting and helped him in his increasingly responsible career assignments, but no solid degree was in sight. "I had no idea what to do," he says, "Kennedy-Western University offered the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree without having to schedule time around class attendance. I knew it was the approach for me."
"I wanted to get a degree once and for all," says Russ. "I was tired of just having pieces of education that didn't add up to much." But he discovered that the various courses and other work experience were credited toward the bachelor's degree that he so dearly wanted. He enrolled and after about a year's worth of studying, taking exams and researching and writing the final paper, Russ earned his B.S. degree in Finance.
